Yoga Class Levels
(Styles of Yoga)

öm times strives to provide a yoga class for every body! If you have any questions as to what level class you think you should be in, please, feel free to call one of the yoga centers, email yoga@omtime.com, or speak to the instructor at the beginning of the class, he or she will be happy to assist you.

Level 1 - Brand New Beginners – Om time prizes its beginning students! These classes contain a class sequence that teaches and refreshes the basics of the individual practice. This class is a safe place to begin or deepen your understanding of the benefits of cultivating strength and flexibility. These classes are recommended for those who are new to yoga or returning after a break from the practice. Each class ends with a deep relaxation and sense of accomplishment and well-being!

Level 1 /2 – Beginner and Beginning Intermediate – These classes are taught with the vision of cultivating foundational skills and building upon them to prepare the student to engage more and more complex postures and poses, as one’s yoga skill set unfolds. Masterful modifications are always offered for those wishing for a more gentle experience, as skills for more intermediate postures are cultivated and more complex variations are introduced. These classes will involve a variety of movement-based sun salutations, standing poses, standing balancing poses, core strengthening postures and sequences, gentle back-bending, and seated flexibility increasing postures. These practices always include continued reflection into the breath and a deep relaxation at the end of our time together.

Level 2/3 – The only way to ever study the more intermediate postures, gestures, and general process of life is to someday find your self with the skills to simply find yourself there! The only way to accomplish that is to step safely into the challenge of encouraging your yogic life skills to develop. We teach our level 2/3 class from the stand point that we are each growing as human beings. As more intricate asanas are introduced, the philosophical and spiritual mind is also challenged, stepped, and broadened. These asana (active posture classes) are taught with the vision of building upon foundational skills and strength cultivated in our level 1 / 2 classes in order to attempt and engage more and more complex postures and poses. Masterful modifications are always offered for those still cultivating strength and flexibility, as skills for more intermediate postures are cultivated and more complex variations are introduced. These classes will involve a variety of sun salutations, standing poses, standing balancing poses, core strengthening postures and sequences, hand balancing, deepened back-bending, inversions, and seated postures. These practices include reflection into the breath, cultivation of breathing practices, and a deep (well earned) relaxation at the end of our time together.

Level 3 – A wise, master yoga teacher, David Swenson, once said, “You do not ‘do advanced poses’ you simply – someday – find yourself in ONE!’ So true. The evolution of your practice will cultivate a fluency of your body in time and space. These skills of strength and flexibility can be massaged into being through continuing to come to the mat and grow and change and evolve your fluency of self. It is never about “doing” the pose, it is about being with yourself while you engage the process. In this class level, our most masterful teachers evolve your sense of body poetry. These are the classes where lights go on and angels sing when a gesture or cue or response is heard internally and externally… and the student finds him or herself on the PATH to the pose. Further, the only way to ever study the more intermediate and advanced asanas is to be exposed to them, unfurl the skills towards them, and come to the practice often! These classes are a joy to experience. The body, mind and heart feel loved… tired by the end… but loved. These practices are guided with the vision of building upon foundational and intermediate skills and strength cultivated in our level 2 / 3 classes in order to attempt and engage the more complex physical shapes. Masterful modifications are offered for those still cultivating the strength and flexibility a posture requires, as more intermediate and advanced postures and sequences are cultivated and more challenging variations are introduced. These classes will involve a varying degree of sun salutations, standing poses, standing balancing poses, core strengthening postures and sequences, hand balancing, deep back-bending, a variety of inversions and timings done in inversions, as well as seated postures and meditation. These practices include reflection into the breath, advancement of breathing practices, and a deep (well earned) relaxation at the end of our time together.

Level 1/2/3
– These classes are open to anyone and any level. We can all come play! The instructors of these classes excel at teaching to a group of students with a mixed level of practice. Modifications will be given for more beginning variations of postures as well as invitations, to those more experienced, for more intermediate or advanced forms. Each instructor holds a safe space for each student to uniquely explore the edge of their practice with challenge and consideration for the form, alignment, breath, and balance of yoga as a practice of personal and collective growth. All levels of practice are honored and a full selection of props is available for student use. It is recommended that you bring your smile.
Prenatal and Postnatal – These classes are taught to the level of the mommies-to-be and mommies-who-are who participate. These sweet classes are highly specialized to cultivate strength, flexibility, serenity and joy in the minds, hearts, and bodies of expectant mothers. As with all forms of exercise, please, check with your doctor before engaging in any physical activity. Postnatal and Mommy and me classes are encouraged to bring babies 4 weeks to walking!
